Egypt's
International Economic Forum in cooperation with the Federation of
Egyptian banks have organized the first conference on retail banking and
consumer finance in Egypt. The conference was under the auspices of HE
Dr. Mahmoud Abul Eyoun, Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt, and was
highly attended by a large group of distinguished chairmen and top
executives from local and international financial institutions.
The
topics covered issues related to the retail banking industry in Egypt,
such as delivery channels, concept of customer service, challenges
facing this industry, profitability, as well as the most successful
approaches to product development in the Egyptian retail banking market. During
the two day conference, banks, insurance companies and retailers
identified problems and established effective solutions for corporations
which were faced by similar challenges. The conference also presented a
number of packages that were designed for consumer benefit.
Egypt:
A Regional Hub for Gas and Energy

Egypt's
International Economic Forum in conjuction with the CWC Associates
Ltd. have organized a conference on Egypt's potential to position
itself as a regional center for gas. The conference was inaugurated by and
under the auspices of HE Sameh Fahmy, Egyptian Minister of Petroleum. The
two days event drew together senior Egyptian government officials with key
corporate executives from gas, power and petrochemical industries to
discuss the necessary strategies for monetising Egypt's gas reserves and
building its role as a regional hub for gas and energy.
 The topics were diversified and included:
exploration potential, infrastructure in the domestic market, progress
in gas export pipelines and regional competition, opportunities for
private investments in gas industry, as well as restructuring the
Egyptian power sector.

3rd Conference on Information
Technology & Telecommunications
in the Arab World:
“Road Map to Growth”

Egypt's
International Economic Forum has organized its Third conference on IT and
Telecommunications in the Arab world “Road Map To Growth” The conference,
was under the Auspices of H.E. Mohamed Hosny Mubarak President of the Arab
Republic of Egypt. Ministers of Information Technology and Telecommunications,
representatives of the private sector and international organizations
participated in the Conference.
To support the Arab Document submitted to the WSIS, the following set
of recommendations were developed in the conference:

Increasing the access to the telecommunications infrastructure.

Extending the role of IT in developing the Human Resources.
-
Increasing the Arabic content on the Internet.
-
Enhancing the regulatory framework.
-
Encouraging companies – especially small and medium enterprise – in developing
the information society.

Activating the regional role for the Arab IT Forum.
-
Establishing a Pan-Arab IT Fund.
-
Encouraging IT investment in the Arab world through creating a more
investment-friendly environment.
-
Giving more attention to education, training and e-education issues.
-
Highlighting the important role played by the media encouraging further
investment in IT.
-
Developing a common vision for the Arab World in the IT and Telecommunications
field.
Furthermore,
Egypt's Economic Forum
introduced a competition within the Arab countries to choose the best studies
and researches in the IT field. Invitations from Syria, Virginia State (U.S.) to
host the following conferences will be studies.
