Recognizing
the pressing necessity for economic, political and social development,
Egypt's International Economic Forum, has realized since its inception in
1948 that the Forum must act as a catalyst for positive change not only on
the economic level, but also on the political, social and cultural ones.
The Forum also realized that those challenges can only be confronted
through the collaborative efforts of the government, the private sector
and the civil society, and with the creation of a critical mass to the
transformation of Egypt.
Towards
these ends, the Forum formulated its mission and commitment on the basis
of reform as the only platform for implementing sound and sustainable
policies aimed at establishing a knowledge and innovation based economy
and a democratized modern society.
Benefiting
from the spirit of change and a period of transformation, the Forum has
effectively engaged the Egyptian government in events, conferences and
closed meetings. Among such events, the Forum hosted Prime Minister Nazif
and members of his cabinet to outline their policies in 2004, and rehosted
them one year later to question them on their delivery. Similarly, the
Forum organized a series of symposia and workshops to address key
unprecedented changes on the Egyptian scene such as the constitutional
amendments, the first contested presidential elections, the 2005
parliamentary elections. Moreover, recognizing the complexities and
complementarities of reforms aspects, the Forum organized a series of
regional and renowned conferences on CIT, the financial sector reform,
energizing Egypt's future growth, in addition to Egypt-US relations.
The
Forum is proud to state that those activities have resulted in policy
changes that have already started to bear fruit and are proving their
positive impact on the performance, achievements, competitiveness and the
overall state of the Egyptian economy. Encouraged by these achievements
the Forum has decided to seek higher plateaus and operate in the global
arena, and as such it will hold the first Global Innovation and Technology
Conference in 2007.
The
Forum, supported by a growing membership, an ever growing network of
contacts and with sharper focus, looks ahead on its tenth year to a New
Year with emboldened ambitions, stronger resolve with one concret
objective: Serving and promoting Egypt's interests and prosperity.
